Android 17 Update Triggers Multiple Issues on Pixel Phones

Google’s Android 17 update is creating problems for a growing number of Pixel smartphone users, with reports of touchscreen malfunctions, connectivity issues, disappearing widgets and broken home screen features emerging since the software began rolling out on June 16. While many Pixel owners have installed the update without any noticeable issues, a significant number have reported bugs affecting daily use.

One of the most commonly reported problems involves touchscreen behavior on Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 devices. Users have described reversed scrolling, delayed touch responses, random screen movements and areas of the display becoming unresponsive. Google’s official Pixel Community account has advised affected users to clear the Pixel Launcher cache or restart their phones in Safe Mode to determine whether a third-party application may be causing the issue. Some users have also reported success after disabling the Triple Tap to Zoom accessibility feature.

Another issue affecting several Pixel models causes devices to lose 5G connectivity and fall back to LTE networks. Reports also mention missing eSIM profiles and Wi-Fi networks failing to reconnect automatically. The problem has been observed on the Pixel 9 series, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a and Pixel 6a. Some users say resetting mobile network settings has restored normal connectivity.

Pixel owners have also reported home screen widgets disappearing after the first reboot following installation of Android 17. The issue appears to affect devices including the Pixel 9, Pixel 10 and Pixel 6a. Google has acknowledged the problem and confirmed that a fix is being developed. Temporary workarounds shared by users include enabling and then disabling Extreme Battery Saver or toggling Focus Mode on and off.

A separate bug reported by some Pixel 10 Pro users affects the Google search bar located on the home screen. In affected cases, the Gemini icon, Google Lens shortcut and voice search controls disappear. Some users have also reported missing folders on the home screen. One reported solution involved uninstalling and reinstalling a work profile, which restored the missing functionality.

For users who have not yet installed Android 17 and whose devices are operating normally, waiting for Google to release additional fixes may be a reasonable option. However, many Pixel owners continue to report no issues at all, suggesting the bugs are not affecting every device. Google has previously addressed major Pixel software problems, including storage-related issues involving multiple user profiles in 2023 and 2024, and has already confirmed that a fix for the widget bug is on the way.
