Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus Debuts in U.S. Amid Summer Heat

Sony has begun shipping its Reon Pocket Pro Plus wearable thermal device in the United States, arriving as summer heatwaves continue across parts of the country. First introduced earlier this year, the hands-free cooling and warming device was scheduled to reach U.S. customers in late July.

Unlike portable handheld fans, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus cools the wearer without blowing air. The device rests against the back of the neck using an adjustable neckband, where a solid metal plate transfers cooling directly to the skin. Because blood vessels are close to the surface in this area, the cooling effect can help lower the body’s perceived temperature. A built-in vent directs heat away from the user, and an extension designed for collared shirts helps channel warm air farther from the body while remaining largely concealed beneath clothing.

Sony has also included a Wearable Sensing Device, known as the TAG, which wirelessly connects to the companion smartphone app. The sensor monitors the surrounding temperature and automatically adjusts the cooling level when Smart Mode is enabled. Users can also manually control the temperature through physical buttons on the device or within the mobile app.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus introduces several upgrades over the previous generation. Sony says the new model delivers cooling that is 20% stronger, while a redesigned neckband, larger cooling plate and more flexible hinge improve comfort and stability during extended use. The device also includes automatic thermal protection that shuts it down if overheating is detected.

Battery life varies depending on the selected cooling level. Sony says the wearable can operate for up to 10 hours on its second-coldest setting, approximately 18 hours on the mid-level setting and more than 30 hours on the lowest cooling level. A full recharge takes about three hours, while the battery can reach 80% capacity in around two hours.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus is priced at $259.99 through Sony’s online store. Although it has only recently become available in the U.S., it is already listed as out of stock on Sony’s website. The device is also available through retailers including Wafuu.com and eBay, where prices may differ.

In addition to providing cooling during warmer months, the wearable also functions as a personal heater, allowing users to switch to warming mode when temperatures drop, making it suitable for year-round use.
