Netflix’s long-running partnership with bestselling mystery author Harlan Coben appears poised for another major success with the arrival of I Will Find You, a new thriller series that continues the writer’s remarkable track record of chart-topping adaptations on the streaming platform.
The eight-episode drama stars Sam Worthington as David Burroughs, a man serving a life sentence for the murder of his young son, Matthew. His world is turned upside down when his former sister-in-law, Rachel Mills, played by Britt Lower, presents evidence indicating that the child he was convicted of killing could still be alive. Driven by the possibility of finding his son, David escapes prison and embarks on a desperate search for answers.
Speaking ahead of the series premiere, Coben explained that while suspense and mystery remain central to his storytelling, the emotional journey of the characters is what truly drives audience engagement. He said his stories are ultimately built around hope, noting that viewers must care deeply about the people involved for the twists and revelations to have a meaningful impact. According to Coben, David’s motivation is not simply to clear his name but to pursue the chance that his son may still be living, making the story one of redemption and perseverance.
The series was created and executive produced by Robert Hull, who also serves as showrunner. Hull revealed that he was immediately captivated when Coben first described the concept several years ago. A longtime admirer of the author’s work, Hull said the premise stood out because it centered on a father willing to risk everything for the possibility of saving his child. He added that the emotional weight of a parent seeking to correct the greatest tragedy of their life made the story especially compelling and universally relatable.
Alongside Worthington and Lower, the cast includes Milo Ventimiglia, Logan Browning, Erin Richards, Jonathan Tucker, Madeleine Stowe, and Chi McBride. The drama explores themes of sacrifice, guilt, hope, and the lengths a parent will go to protect their family.
Coben also discussed his writing process, revealing that he almost always determines the ending of a story before he begins writing. Out of the 38 books he has authored, only one started without a planned conclusion. He believes knowing the destination allows him to construct more confident and effective twists throughout the narrative. The author expands on his creative methods in his upcoming memoir and writing guide, Plot Twist: Life, Craft, and the Messy First Draft, scheduled for release later this year.
Netflix has transformed more than 13 of Coben’s novels into television productions across multiple countries, including Run Away, Fool Me Once, Safe, The Woods, The Innocent, Gone for Good, Stay Close, Hold Tight, The Stranger, Missing You, Just One Look, and Caught. The streaming giant recently announced plans to adapt Coben’s iconic Myron Bolitar series, further expanding its growing collection of stories based on the author’s work.
Audience demand for Coben adaptations remains strong. Run Away, which debuted on Netflix in January 2026, spent four consecutive weeks in the platform’s Global Top 10, collecting 38 million views and ranking among the Top 10 titles in 84 countries. Earlier, Fool Me Once became one of Netflix’s biggest television hits of 2024, generating more than 98 million views during its first 91 days and earning a place on the service’s all-time Most Popular TV list. The series also sparked renewed interest in Coben’s novel, helping it reach major bestseller lists in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Book-based productions continue to play a significant role in Netflix’s programming strategy. During 2025, adaptations generated more than 9 billion views globally and accounted for nearly one-fifth of all viewing hours on the platform. A book adaptation also appeared in Netflix’s Global Top 10 every week throughout the year, underscoring the popularity of literary properties among subscribers.
Given the success of previous Coben projects and the strong appeal of its emotionally driven premise, I Will Find You is widely expected to become the latest addition to Netflix’s list of high-performing original series.
