Toy Story 5 Credits Scene Rewards Fans Who Stay Seated

Toy Story 5

Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters nationwide on Friday, bringing back beloved characters voiced by Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack while continuing the franchise’s story in a technology-driven world. Directed by Andrew Stanton, known for Finding Nemo and WALL-E, the latest installment introduces a new challenge for Bonnie as digital entertainment begins to replace her connection with traditional toys.

Set six years after 2019’s Toy Story 4, the film follows 8-year-old Bonnie, voiced by Scarlett Spears, after her parents give her a digital companion called Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee. As Bonnie becomes increasingly attached to the device and its online social features, she begins spending less time with her longtime toys, including Jessie and Buzz Lightyear.

The story takes a turn when Bonnie is invited to a sleepover organized through her Lilypad chat group. Hoping to accompany her, Jessie and Bullseye attempt to join the trip but end up stranded after Bonnie’s friends tease her for still playing with toys. Their effort to return home leads them on a journey connected to their past and introduces them to Blaze, a farm girl voiced by Mykal-Michelle Harris. Meanwhile, Woody and Buzz set out to reunite with their friends and bring them back to Bonnie.

The film also revisits a storyline involving a group of Buzz Lightyear action figures introduced early in the movie. After a shipping container carrying numerous Buzz toys washes up on a deserted island, the figures free themselves and begin searching for Star Command. During their adventure, the newer Buzz models reveal advanced abilities, including the power to transform into drones, which later prove useful in dangerous situations.

Fans who remain in their seats during the credits are treated to a mid-credits sequence. The scene shows schoolchildren arriving at a playground when Buzz Lightyear drone toys descend from the sky and begin interacting with them. Even the school principal appears delighted to receive one. The moment then shifts to a student who removes an upgraded Evil Emperor Zurg from his backpack. The scene concludes with Zurg addressing Buzz by saying, “We meet again, my son!”

While post-credit scenes often hint at future installments, the sequence in Toy Story 5 appears designed to echo an earlier moment in the film when the original Buzz informs the newer Buzz units that Zurg is their father. The movie does not include an additional post-credits scene after this moment.

As the credits conclude, Lilypad joins Pizza with Sunglasses for a musical performance based on a rap song introduced earlier in the film. The segment gives Pizza with Sunglasses, voiced by Grammy-winning artist and Super Bowl LX halftime performer Bad Bunny, a spotlight moment. The performance also features several familiar characters, including Rex, Trixie, Dolly, Mrs. Potato Head, Forky, and Mr. Pricklepants.

Rated PG, Toy Story 5 opens in theaters across the United States on Friday.
