Toy Story 5 Sets Franchise Record With $160M Opening Weekend

Disney and Pixar have delivered the biggest box office debut of 2026 with “Toy Story 5,” which earned an estimated $160 million during its opening weekend in North America, according to early industry figures. The strong performance marks the highest opening in the history of the “Toy Story” franchise and the largest domestic debut of the year so far.

The film comfortably surpassed the launch of “Toy Story 4,” which opened to $120.9 million in 2019, improving on its predecessor’s debut by nearly $40 million. The latest installment also secured the second-largest opening weekend ever for a Pixar release, trailing only “The Incredibles 2,” which generated $182.6 million during its 2018 debut.

International audiences also turned out in large numbers, helping “Toy Story 5” collect an estimated $152 million overseas. Combined with its domestic earnings, the film reached a worldwide opening total of approximately $312 million.

The animated sequel also overtook the previous top opening of 2026, surpassing Universal’s “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” which brought in $131.7 million domestically when it premiered in April.

Elsewhere at the box office, Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” finished in second place during the weekend that included Father’s Day and the Juneteenth federal holiday. The film earned about $17.2 million, representing a 61% drop from its opening weekend. Independent horror successes continued their impressive runs, with “Obsession” taking third place after adding another $14.2 million and “Backrooms” securing fourth with $7.5 million. Despite ending its streak of weekend increases, “Obsession” has now amassed $305 million worldwide against a reported production budget of only $750,000.

The overall domestic box office generated $237.6 million over the three-day period, making it the strongest weekend of 2026 to date. That total exceeded the $219.5 million recorded during Easter weekend following the release of “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” as well as the $216.2 million earned over Memorial Day weekend.
